Stylc's eight goals not
enough, Bishops fall to
Hornets in OT
Rocky
Mount, NC
-
Senior Allie Stylc
(pictured) scored a
season-high eight goals
and added an assist, but
it was not enough as her
North Carolina Wesleyan
lacrosse squad fell to
Shenandoah University by
a 13-12 score in
overtime on Saturday.
The Bishops, who
recognized Stylc and
fellow senior Georgette
Webster prior to the
match, drop to 3-10
overall, 1-4 in the USA
South.
With
the game tied at 11-11
heading into the
six-minute overtime
period, SU's Courtney
Beard and Kelly
Matagiese both scored in
the first three-minute
session to give SU (4-7,
2-3 USA South) a
two-goal advantage.
Stylc
answered for the Bishops
with a free position
goal in the second
three-minute OT period,
causing the Hornets to
go into a stall.
The
Lady Bishops stole the
ball and had an 8-meter
shot to force a
sudden-victory overtime
period, but SU keeper
Wendy Taylor stopped
both the 8-meter shot
and an ensuing attempt
to preserve the victory.
Matagiese led the
Hornets in scoring with
six goals, while Arissa
Myrick, Lauren
Carpinello and Beard
each added two goals.
Stylc's performance was
complimented by Sarah
Matulich's two goals and
two assists.
Katelyn Guinn also added
a goal and two assists.
Taylor stopped eight
Bishops shots with her
counterpart, Sarah
Seligman, making 17
saves.
The
Bishops wrap up USA
South play on Tuesday at
Averett University.
Match time is slated for
4:30 p.m. in Danville,
VA.
