Bishops end lacrosse
season with tourney loss

Wesleyan’s lacrosse team
saw its 2007 season come
to an end on Tuesday
afternoon as the
6th-seeded Bishops fell
to 3rd-seeded Methodist
by a 20-10 score in USA
South Tournament first
round action. The
Monarchs (6-9) now
advance to the
conference tournament
semifinals for the sixth
consecutive year, while
Wesleyan concludes its
second season of play
with a 3-13 record.
NCWC senior Allie Stylc
opened the scoring in
the first minute of
play, giving the Bishops
an early 1-0 lead.
Freshman Jessica Lutzow
quickly evened the score
for Methodist, and
Andrea DiStefano and
Bridget Holcomb followed
up with goals to give
Methodist a 3-1 lead.
The Bishops’ Lauren
Stearns countered with a
goal, but the Monarchs
scored the next four to
forge a 7-2 lead.
Methodist took a 12-4
lead into the break.
Wesleyan put up a fight
in the second half, but
got no closer than 16-8
with 13:17 remaining in
the game.
Holcomb finished with
six goals and an assist
to pace the Monarchs
offensively, while
Christina Layson tallied
five scores. For
the Bishops, Stylc
closed out her career
with six goals and an
assist.
Freshman goalkeeper
Lindsey Cosgray had six
stops in the game on 17
shots, while Wesleyan
goalies Cary Trump and
Sarah Seligman combined
for 13 saves.
