CNU downs Wesleyan in USA South lacrosse action

Newport News, VA - Eleven different Captains scored, including a game-high four goals by Bonnie Hanson, as Christopher Newport downed North Carolina Wesleyan in Wednesday's USA South lacrosse action by a 20-1 score.  Freshman Sarah Matulich scored the Bishops' lone goal.  CNU improves to 2-1 on the season with both wins coming against conference opponents.  Wesleyan is now 1-1 overall, 0-1 in league play.

CNU opened up a 10-0 lead in the first half before Matulich broke through with a goal for Wesleyan with 4:07 left in the period.  The Captains closed the half with two more goals and took a 12-1 lead into the break.  NCWC's Katelyn Guinn recorded nine saves in goal during the first 30 minutes of play.

It was all CNU in the second half as the Captains out-scored the Bishops 8-0 in the period.  Freshman Sarah Seligman relieved Guinn between the pipes and made six saves, while Robinson tallied one save for CNU.

The Captains out-shot the Bishops 46-3 on the day.

In addition to Hanson's four goals, Kristen Conques and Katie Doherty each added three, while Shayna Sargent and Kristyn Hankins turned in two apiece. Lisa Thomson, Alyssa Burke, Brooke Falck, Kylene Jennings, Christine Mike, and Holli Sawyer also notched scores.

Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday when the Bishops host Bridgewater College at 11:00 a.m. at Scalf Field.
