CNU downs Wesleyan in USA South
lacrosse action

- Eleven different Captains scored,
including a game-high four goals by
Bonnie Hanson, as Christopher
Newport downed North Carolina
Wesleyan in Wednesday's USA South
lacrosse action by a 20-1 score.
Freshman Sarah Matulich scored the
Bishops' lone goal. CNU
improves to 2-1 on the season with
both wins coming against conference
opponents. Wesleyan is now 1-1
overall, 0-1 in league play.
CNU
opened up a 10-0 lead in the first
half before Matulich broke through
with a goal for Wesleyan with 4:07
left in the period. The
Captains closed the half with two
more goals and took a 12-1 lead into
the break. NCWC's Katelyn
Guinn recorded nine saves in goal
during the first 30 minutes of play.
It
was all CNU in the second half as
the Captains out-scored the Bishops
8-0 in the period. Freshman
Sarah Seligman relieved Guinn
between the pipes and made six
saves, while Robinson tallied one
save for CNU.
The
Captains out-shot the Bishops 46-3
on the day.
In
addition to Hanson's four goals,
Kristen
Conques and Katie Doherty each added
three, while Shayna Sargent and
Kristyn Hankins turned in two
apiece. Lisa Thomson, Alyssa Burke,
Brooke Falck, Kylene Jennings,
Christine Mike, and Holli Sawyer
also notched scores.
Wesleyan returns to action on
Saturday when the Bishops host
Bridgewater College at 11:00 a.m. at
Scalf Field.
