Bishop lacrosse picks up
road wins over Ferrum
and SBC

- The Bishop lacrosse
squad of North Carolina
Wesleyan earned two road
wins this weekend,
beginning on Saturday
when they earned their
first USA South victory
of the season by a 9-7
score over Ferrum.
Wesleyan then downed
Sweet Briar College on
Sunday, 13-11. Katelyn
Guinn (pictured) paced
the Bishops with seven
goals and two assists in
the two matches,
including a season-high
six goals against SBC.
The Bishops, who have
now won two straight for
the first time in the
program’s brief history,
are 3-6 on the season
and 1-2 in league play.
On Saturday, Wesleyan
and Ferrum found
themselves tied 4-4 at
intermission.
FC’s Sarah Kaye gave the
Panthers an early 5-4
lead in the second half
with a goal just 32
seconds into the period,
but Wesleyan responded
with a 3-0 run that saw
senior Allie Stylc notch
two goals and Mikey Case
one. All three goals
were unassisted as the
Bishops pushed ahead
7-5.
Ferrum battled back with
scores by Stephanie
Perih and Kerry Toomey
to tie the game at 7-7
with 3:01 remaining in
regulation. Stylc,
however, answered with
the eventual game-winner
at the 2:19 mark, and
Guinn’s goal with 16
seconds left sealed the
9-7 conference win.
Stylc finished with four
goals for Wesleyan,
while freshman Sarah
Matulich added two of
her own. Perih led the
Panthers with three
goals.
Defensively, NCWC’s
Sarah Seligman earned
the win in goal after
facing 17 shots and
making six saves. FC’s
Crystal Heglar faced 21
Bishops shots and made
eight saves in the
losing effort.
Wesleyan road the
momentum of Saturday’s
game to a second
straight win on Sunday,
a 13-11 victory at Sweet
Briar.
Guinn paced the Bishops
with six goals, while
Stylc, Case, and
Matulich added two
scores apiece.
Additionally, Matulich
chipped in two assists.
Lauren Stearns rounded
out Wesleyan’s scoring
with her second goal of
the weekend road trip.
Seligman earned her
third win between the
pipes.
The Bishops will return
to action on Wednesday
when they host USA South
foe Methodist
University. Game time
is slated for 4:00 p.m.
at Scalf Field.
