Program Overview
North Carolina Wesleyan College supported its first
women’s lacrosse team in the spring of 2006. The program did not take long
to enter the win column, recording the first lacrosse victory in Wesleyan
history just three games into its inaugural season when, on February 26th,
the Battling Bishops defeated Bridgewater College at home by a 12-6 score. Another
key milestone was the program’s first road win that came in a 12-10 overtime
victory at Hood College on April 2nd that same season.
The Bishops compete in the USA South Athletic Conference and
participate in games against other schools in the Lower Atlantic Region. The NCAA awards
an automatic bid to the champion of the USA South
Conference Tournament, and North Carolina Wesleyan College
intends to put forth great effort to compete for this honor during each
campaign.
Our women’s lacrosse team begins practice during our
non-traditional fall season. Our official season begins at the start of the
spring semester and extends through the month of April. During that time we
participate in roughly 17 games, six of which are USA South Conference contests.
The team consists of highly motivated and talented
athletes from all across the nation. Bishop players have come from as far
west as Texas and as far north as New York to join the program. It is our
goal to be competitive and enter each season with fire and strength, while
possessing poise and finesse... the way women’s lacrosse was intended to be
played!
