Two second half goals lift UMW to 3-1 win over Bishops

Rocky Mount, NC - The University of Mary Washington used two second half goals by Kate Parvin to seal a 3-1 women's soccer victory over North Carolina Wesleyan on Tuesday afternoon at Scalf Field.  NCWC's Aubrey Bonorden (pictured) scored the Bishops' lone goal for a 1-1 tie at the break, but the Eagle defense limited Wesleyan to just two shots in the second half en route to the win. UMW improves to 6-3-4, while the Bishops drop to 3-5-1 on the season.

UMW's Amy Olsen netted the first goal of the contest in the 10th minute on an assist by Rachel Gerstein. Bonorden's unassisted goal came 11 minutes later when she chipped a 25-yard shot over the head of Eagle keeper Tina Brehm.

In the second half, Parvin scored the eventual game-winner in the 76th minute on another Gerstein assist.  She effectively put the contest out of reach with an unassisted score with 2:20 remaining.

The Eagles out-shot the Bishops 18-5 on the day and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.  NCWC keeper Bryanne Godfrey finished with an impressive eight saves in 90 minutes of play.

NCWC returns to USA South action on Saturday when the Bishops travel to Mary Baldwin College. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. in Staunton, VA.
