NCWC women's tennis
falls in USA South First

- The North Carolina
Wesleyan women's tennis
team saw its 2009 season
come to an end on
Tuesday afternoon,
falling to Ferrum
College by a 6-3 score
in the first round of
the USA South Conference
Tournament. Sophomores
Jaime Galasso (pictured)
and Leila Heinonen
scored all three of the
Battling Bishops' points
with a victory at #1
doubles, as well as wins
at #1 and #2 singles.
NCWC finishes the season
with a 1-15 overall
record.
In doubles play, Galasso
and Heinonen teamed to
down the Panther tandem
of Brittany Rodgers and
Kaiwna Berry by an 8-3
score. Ferrum went on to
tally 8-5 and 8-3
victories at the second
and third seeds.
Galasso and Heinonen
cruised in singles play
with straight-set
victories over Rodgers
and Angelina Baaklini,
respectively. Galasso
was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at
the top seed, while
Heinonen turned in a
6-2, 6-2 win at the
second slot.
Unfortunately, the
7th-seeded Panthers
swept seeds three
through six to secure
the victory and advance
to quarterfinal play on
Friday in Burlington.
Ferrum players picked up
victories over NCWC's
#3 Joanne Youngblood
(6-0, 6-0), #4 Meghan
Herd (6-2, 6-4), #5 Tija
Riley (6-2, 6-1), and #6
Juliana Richardson (6-0,
6-0).
