Department of English

English is an excellent pre-professional major for careers in business, criminal justice, public relations, advertising, marketing, radio/TV, journalism, federal and state government service, social work, and law. Each of these professions requires people who can read and write well, think critically, and do research-- precisely the skills developed in the English major. The study of literature prepares students to respond intelligently to numerous points of view; analyzing character and plot provides differing perspectives on the world.
