The English Department
English is an excellent major for careers in business, criminal justice, public relations, advertising, marketing, radio/TV, journalism, federal and state government service, social work, and law. Each of these professions requires people who can read and write well, think critically, and do research— precisely the skills developed in the English major. The study of literature prepares students to respond intelligently to numerous points of view; analyzing character and plot provides differing perspectives on the world.
The Department of English at North Carolina Wesleyan College offers both a major and minor in English, as well as a minor in Journalism.

“Being an English major helps you to examine the possibilities and opens your mind to many different ideas and opinions.”
—Shannon McGinnis, Class of 2007
As an English major, “I really enjoyed being in a seminar-type environment discussing my views with other ambitious students. These professors are excellent at generating class discussions and providing superb support to the students during and after their time at Wesleyan.”
—Chris Ochoa, Class of 2008
