REQUIREMENTS

Students are responsible for completing all reading, writing, oral presentation, and library assignments.   In addition, any student given extra tutoring assignments will be expected to fulfill this task as part of the course requirements.  Final grades will be determined as follows:

Four major writing projects    60%
In-class essays and quizzes on reading assignments.        20%
Oral presentations 10%
Class participation, group work and homework assignments 10%

ATTENDANCE:

The college’s attendance policy as described in the catalogue will be used in this class.

Three absences for any reason are allowed.  For each absence beyond the third, your semester grade percentage will be penalized by 5%.  Generally there will be no exceptions to this policy, and any requests for exceptions must be made before a fourth absence is incurred. Students are responsible for all work missed due to an absence.

TARDINESS:

Tardiness is defined as arriving in the classroom after the roll has be taken. Three lates equal one class absence.

DEADLINES:

All assignments are to be submitted at the beginning of class on the due date.  Late papers will not be accepted unless prior arrangements have been made with the professor.

All students must complete all the homework assignments.  Students who come to class unprepared may be asked to leave and will be counted absent for that day.

ESSAY FORMAT:

All major writing projects or formal assignments must be completed on a word processor in 12-point font.  Multiple page assignments must be stapled.  When final projects are submitted, they must be accompanied by all earlier drafts, notes, scribblings, etc.

CONFERENCES:

Individual conferences are for your benefit.  Please come to my office on time with your complete draft ready for discussion.  Each conference appointment you miss equals one class absence.

PLAGIARISM:

Plagiarism, whether deliberate or otherwise, is the submission of someone else’s work as your own.  This is academic dishonesty and the college’s policy (found on page … of the NCWC catalogue) will be enforced.
