is a cooperative effort by the Labor Department and 1,800 State
Employment Service offices. The job-searching process lets you decide how you want to look
for an appropriate position. It is organized by category, military specialty, job code,
federal government, self-directed, and order number (a 9-digit code for each job). There

offering jobs through the Job Bank have their company links included.
CAREER MOSAIC is not a meta-list, but a service run by Bernard Hodes Advertising that specializes in recruiting for high-technology companies. The page is nicely laid-out and easy to navigate. It offers a range of services including link to nearly 200 major corporations with job listing. There is a separate section aimed at college students and a resource center with tips on resumes and networking. The CareerMosaic CollegeConnection provides students, faculty, placement staff, and recruiters with pointers to some of the most interesting college and career-related sites on the Web. If you are a college student looking for your first job - or someone who helps students find their first job - you will want to explore this site.
CAREER MOSAIC'S major strength is its J.O.B.S. data base, which lets you narrow your search by filling out a series of forms. At the end of the process, it gives a list of jobs meeting your criteria. For example, a search for "writer" yielded 45 listings, the oldest less than a month old.
CAREER PATH is a classified employment listing from six of the country's largest newspapers: The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, The San Jose Mercury News and The Washington Post. Choose one newspaper or all of them and then select your major field. (hint - The New York Times has ads for all over the U.S., others probably do too!) If you want to narrow your choices with keywords, then do. Users who access the database are required to register themselves so the newspapers can study how the service is being used, but the papers have indicated that the information will remain confidential and not sold to other marketers. So, jump in there and hunt!
EMPLOYMENT EDGE is another well-organized site with both its own job listings and links to other recruiting sites. It lists jobs by category (accounting, management, programming, etc.) and also has links to all those sites for resume help and interviewing tips.
The INTERNET JOB LOCATOR combines all the major job-search engines on one page and lets you do a search of all of them at once. The look of the INTERNET JOB LOCATOR reflects the new minimalist chic in some Web pages -- stark white sites for resume help and interviewing tips.
JOB HUNT , Dr. Dane Spearing, a geologist at Stanford University, started the JOB HUNT page in 1993 when he was searching for a job. He found about 20 sites related to on-line recruiting and decided to put the list on the Web. It now includes more than 200 sites and continues to grow. The JOB HUNT page is far from flashing but it is well organized. (Incidentally, Spearing is still in the same job he had when he started the list. "I'm still looking, which is why I maintain the list," he said.)
