- The North Carolina Wesleyan College Library is a valuable resource
for area residents, with a collection of over 80,000 volumes, over
400 periodical subscriptions, and valuable collections of both federal
and North Carolina state government documents. The Library is open
to the public during regular library hours, and library staff will
assist public users if they do not interfere with the staff’s
obligations in support of the instructional program of the College.
North Carolina Wesleyan College students, faculty, and staff always
have priority.
- Borrowing privileges are restricted to public users with memberships
in the Friends of the Library of North Carolina Wesleyan College.
- A membership in Friends of the Library costs $25.00 and is good
for one year from the date of purchase. To obtain a membership, an
individual must present a valid North Carolina drivers license or
identification card with the current mailing address. If the individual
does not have a valid NC drivers license or identification card, another
current photo ID may be substituted. If the license or ID does not
show the current address, the individual may present (with the license
or photo ID) two items of mail showing the individual’s name
and current mailing address. Members are expected to keep the Library
informed of their current telephone number and e-mail and regular
mail addresses.
- A membership may be used by adult family members and high school
students in the family. An adult member of the family must be present
to apply for the membership or must submit a signed statement accepting
responsibility for library materials in order to establish a family
membership.
- Books may be borrowed for three weeks and may be renewed once.
Because of the limited size of the collection, public borrowers are
limited to five books on loan at one time. Public borrowers are responsible
for all overdue fines and any charges incurred, including replacement
costs of lost materials.
- All Library patrons are expected to honor the rules of the Library
and to conduct themselves in a manner that respects the rights of
other Library users and Library staff. Public borrowers should recognize
that students always have priority and should willingly relinquish
Library computers and resources if asked to do so. Any activity that
may hinder the use of the Library or Library resources by other patrons
is prohibited.
- The library computer lab may be used occasionally by public borrowers
who are members of the Friends of the Library. Public borrowers should
remember, however, that NC Wesleyan College students, faculty, and
staff always have priority. This privilege is not intended to provide
routine access to the computer lab.
- Interlibrary loan privileges may be extended to public borrowers
who are members of the Friends of the Library. They must pay all fees
charged by lending libraries, and a minimum fee of $3.00 to cover
the charges incurred through the OCLC Interlibrary Loan System.
- Retired North Carolina Wesleyan College faculty and staff members
may obtain free borrowers cards.
- Free cards are available to Methodist ministers in Rocky Mount.
- North Carolina Wesleyan College Alumni may obtain free borrowers
cards. The library grants alumni status only to those students who
have received their diploma from North Carolina Wesleyan College and
whose library accounts are in good standing.
- Agreements have been executed with Mount Olive College and Shaw
University to allow students from these institutions to use the North
Carolina Wesleyan College Library. These students must provide appropriate
identification and current information including address and home
and office telephone numbers to obtain borrowers cards. Participating
students are expected to abide by all rules of the library and to
pay any fees for overdue or lost materials.
