What is a Full Text Article?A full text article is one that comes from a database that provides full text coverage. Some databases provide only citations to articles. But, many databases do provide complete articles. Complete articles come in two formats. The most common is HTML Full Text. This type of article uses plain text. The articles sometimes include pictures and charts. BUT, some HTML Full Text articles leave out images. The other format is Adobe PDF Full Text. This type of article is basically a photograph of the original article (how it actually appeared in the journal or magazine) and includes all images and charts. Below is an example of a HTML Full Text article from the database Academic Search Elite. As you can see, a full text article includes the important citation information at the top of the article.
Underneath the citation is the full text of the article (for this example, only the top portion of the full text is displayed).
