Multimedia at NC Wesleyan

Welcome to our site. We hope to stimulate your mind. Multimedia, in case you didn't know, is the use of technology to facilitate the integration of two or more types of media, such as text, graphics, sound, voice, video, graphics, or animation.  It's more than dressing up a course with some technology. Multimedia is the foundation of modern communication, entertainment, journalism, training, and most importantly, education. Increasingly, more and more educators are finding Multimedia CD-ROMs bundled with textbooks, and increasingly, more and more educators are creating web sites that use multimedia or link to it, such as with news feeds. Full-motion video conferencing has evolved from chat and email as the standard of Internet communication, and picture phones are rapidly replacing cell phones.  Classroom-based presentations often include slide shows that bundle text, images, and sound. It is the purpose of this web site to serve as NC Wesleyan's one-stop portal for information about multimedia and its incorporation in the delivery of curriculum and instruction. Your Web Site Hosts

This web site is brought to you by the Multimedia Advisory Committee, a group of faculty whose five-year mission (from 2000-2005) is to make recommendations about the implementation of a Title III (Department of Education) grant as it pertains to the incorporation of student-directed interactive multimedia in learning and assessment. It is important to note that our grant specifies student-directed and interactive, as opposed to student-oriented and static. This means, as soon as our faculty catch up, our students themselves will be involved in the creation of multimedia, and learning projects in our future classes will be quite interactive, stimulating, and responsive (at least we hope). The committee was once known as the Technology in the Classroom Task Force, which recommended the purchase of Smart Boards, laptops, and projectors.  The committee also advised on the purchase of Campus Cruiser, and continues to advise on other matters, such as WebCt, Blackboard, and the evaluation/assessment of online courses.  The committee works in tandem with an Instructional Technologist that has been hired to help train faculty in the use of technology, equipment, software, as well as creation of web pages and slide shows. Our purpose is to assist the role of Instructional Technology and go beyond it to pedagogical levels that foresee the multimedia classroom experience and learning experiences of the future. The following members are on the committee:
