POLICE AND PROSTITUTION

Outline:
1. Facts on prostitution
2. What police are doing about it
3. How will these outcomes effect the prostitution going on
4. Any graphs I can find
5. Then the conclusion

Prostitution is a big problem that police cannot do too much about.  There are so many places and so many prostitutes it would be hard to try and get every one of them.  There are two objectives when dealing with these issues.  First are the police enforcing prostitution laws in an effort at controlling it?  Second, the police are responsible for investigating and preventing crimes associated with prostitution, such as murders, rapes, and any other things that may harm any of the parties involved.  So looking over this paper you will be more informed with the policing of prostitution.

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS

Prostitution is referred to as the world’s oldest profession. The word “Hooker” dates back in time to the Civil War when Union General Joe Hooker employed prostitutes for himself and his army (Gaines 269). Prostitution has been an enforcement problem as well as order-maintenance problem when it comes to cities.

There are many different types of prostitution. Streetwalkers are commonly found in a city’s vice or drug district. They work out of alleys, stairwells, cars and cheap “hot sheet” hotels. They are vulnerable to problems such as diseases, arrests by the police, and physical abuse by customers and pimps, and generally are poverty-stricken groups trying to support drug habits. There are also bar girls who work in bars or restaurants. B-girls attempt to sell patrons expensive, diluted drinks before offering or selling their sexual services. These girls usually operate adjacent to military bases and factories. There also are Brothels, or houses of prostitution, are where clients can choose a specific type of sexual service and partner. Many brothels have been replaced by escort services; massage parlors, photographic studios, or tanning operations. They use these businesses to cover up the prostitution. Then there are call girls, these are the more expensive prostitutes that work out of nice hotels or visit there clients at their home. They sometimes charge as much as $500 to $1,000 per night, depending on the services rendered. (Gaines 270).

Prostitution is a big problem today because of all the under aged men and women that have gotten into the business. There are estimates in New York City that there are 10,000 under aged males in prostitution. Many females are under aged as well, but there is a growing clientele for under aged prostitutes.

There are many stories of abuse on prostitutes from police officers. The most common type of police abuses that prostitutes face, request for sex in lieu of arrest and verbal abuse. “Blow me and I won’t take you in,” is an offer that a lot of prostitutes have heard and also have turned down. It seems predicated on the assumption that prostitutes don’t care who they have sex with and that they will do anything to avoid arrest, but most prostitutes are resigned to the fact that they will be arrested over and over again, and sometimes questionable charges. They fear when officers step beyond the line of normal procedures. The most common kind of police abuse is when they call the prostitutes names, or verbal abuse (bay sawn).

The Charts that I turned in last time go here.

As you can see prostitution is a crime that will always be around. There are more and more everyday, whether they are male or female. Even the young youth are starting to do it, so that they can pay there way through school. I don’t think there will ever be an end to it all; no matter how hard the police work to fight it. Drugs and prostitution will always be present. Most likely there will always be the crooked cops that will help them out as well. Hopefully, we can help the youth of today not to become involved with it, through stories of prostitutes that are speaking out now about the things that really happens to prostitute out on the streets , because it could lead to rape or even murder.
