Phone Service

Every student is assigned an individual
phone number. If more than one person resides in a room, both numbers
will ring to the room. Each person has a separate voicemail account. To make
long distance calls from your room you will need a pre-paid calling card. Incoming collect calls and 900 number calls
are not allowed.
Voicemail
To set-up your voicemail, follow these directions:
- Dial extension 7799.
- When the system answers:
- Hit the pound (#) key
- Enter your four digit phone number
- Enter the new user security code. This number is four zeroes (0000).
- Select option 3 and then option 1 for personal options. Choose from the menu what you would like to do. Common set up includes: option 3-greeting option 4-security code option 5-name
To retrieve messages:
- Dial extension 4999.
- When the system answers:
- Hit the pound (#) key
- Enter your four digit phone number
- Enter your security code
The system will tell you if you have new messages and how many. You can retrieve voice mail from off-campus by calling (252) 984-4999 and then beginning at #2 above.
Cable Service
Two basic cable television lines are provided in each room. Additional channels may be purchased from Suddenlink Communications. You will need a cable access box provided by Suddenlink for all extended channels. You can contact Suddenlink Communications at (252)443-1592.
You are responsible for returning your cable box to the Suddenlink Communications office in Rocky Mount at the end of the school year.
Computer Networking

There is one port per person in each room
for access to the Colleges mainframe. Connecting will allow you instant
access to the internet.

To be connected there is a one-time fee (only for those machines that do already have a network card):
$75 for 10base-T Network Card, CAT-5 cable and installation
Yearly Access Fee:
$30 for CAT-5 cable and network configuration
This fee must be paid in the Business Office or during the Administrative Check-In process. Then take your receipt along with the CPU to the Information Services Department in the Spruill Building. They will install everything you need and let you know when your computer is available for pick-up. The computer must be PC Compatible (Pentium III or 4 class processor - minimum 750 MHz) with Microsoft Windows (98, NT 4.0, 2000, XP, WITH O.S. CD).
